[After waking up just a short time ago and realizing that these journals serve as some form of communication for- well, wherever they are, a family of ninja decide that they need to search for important information.]
Why am I half naked in a forest?
[There’s a short pause before the blond teenager speaks again, for he has an even more pressing question that needs to be answered.]
WHY ARE MY PARENTS HALF NAKED IN A FOREST?!
[Granted, it’s a very important question but the consensus was they had more prudent information to gather. Like where they are, for example. And so a redheaded woman, Kushina, quickly shouts back over her son’s panic.]
Naruto! That’s not the right question to ask!
Oh-- right.
[Those questions can wait for now.]
Where is this place then? Or what is it? It isn’t like.. the afterlife, right? ‘Cause I don’t think I’m dead, so I can’t be in it! But my Mom and Dad are here too and they were dead, but now they’re alive, so how can they be here at the same time and why do we all have wings and OH GOD THIS IS THE AFTERLIFE, ISN’T IT??
[Suddenly, a fist is flying downwards and towards the top of Naruto’s head.
THWAK.]
FOCUS, YA KNOW!
OWW! THAT HURT Y’KNOW?!
[SUDDENLY AN UZUMAKI STANDOFF that Minato sighs and shakes his head at. Trust these two to be diplomats. It seems like the more Naruto speaks, the more Minato thinks he got so many things from his mother. With a lopsided smile, he calmly steps in between them and carefully grabs the journal from Naruto.]
I would like to apologize for that display. [Behind him, there’s an indignant ‘Hey!’ That said, Minato clears his throat and his expression turns a little more serious.] As it is obvious, we are in need of answers. To the citizens who might be able to lend a hand through this book that we have concluded to be a communication device, we will appreciate any help.
[The next words, he hesitates for a moment in saying, but he feels he might as well throw it out there too.]
Also, for anyone who might know my family and I, please contact us as soon as possible. Thank you. [And he ends that with a polite smile.]

[That's the first thing, because the rest of it is too strange. His parents. The Fourth Hokage. Chouji shouldn't be surprised, considering Asuma, but he is anyway.]
I'll start making ramen now, so you figure out how to get to the village, alright?
[Obviously this is the fastest way to get Naruto into town.]

It's nice to meet you, Akimichi Chouji. You are Chouza's son, correct? I remember seeing you as a baby just a few months ago when Kushina and I visited your household. You have grown so well.

Either way, ramen is obviously the best way to greet Naruto and Chouji is determined to somehow make as much of it as his friend can eat. He gets out the biggest pots in the kitchen while he answers.]
I am! [And with a sheepish smile at the praise...] That was seventeen years ago. I had to grow a little.

But he's here now and even if this second chance isn't exactly what he had in mind, he'll make the most out of it.]
I'm sure Chouza's very proud of you. I take it you're good friends with Shikamaru? [Since their clans have this tight clan thing going on.]

Yes! He and Ino are my teammates, too. Both of them are here.
[Sometimes Chouji wonders if their fathers intentionally had children the same year so that their children would wind up teammates and Ino-Shika-Chou could continue directly into the next generation. He doesn't bother thinking too hard about that, though. He's just happy he has Shikamaru and Ino.]

Oh, so Inoichi's child is also present here? This brings back good memories. Your fathers are impressive ninjas.
[Minato wants to meet Ino too BUT CAN'T BECAUSE PLAYERCEST. That said, Minato wonders the same thing but he doesn't pry on it. Maybe it's an intentional clan thing? Watch Ino force you guys to do the same lmfao.]

Our whole team is here, even Asuma-sensei. [But he falters at the mention of their fathers. His father is an impressive ninja. Shikamaru and Ino's fathers were impressive ninja, and verb tense is always such a stark reminder. He carefully skirts that issue altogether in his own answer.]
I've always looked up to my father and his teammates. [He says it with feeling and sincerity. It is, after all, nothing but the truth. Chouji refuses to lie, but he isn't going to say what happened. That's hardly the greeting to give someone so newly arrived. He uses the practice he had after his own arrival to full avail.]

That's good news, despite where we are. It's always better to face certain situations in numbers. [Minato won't pry more about their fathers but he'll probably give little anecdotes. After all, he can't pry on what he doesn't know, this being Inoichi and Shikaku's deaths.]
I wouldn't be surprised if you are. They're good men. I trust they're doing well? [Oops, sorry, Chouji.]

They... [Chouji winces but hopes he can brush that off with his next statement. He's never been good at hiding the truth.] We're in the middle of a war back home, so I don't know if you could say anyone is doing well.

Well, if that was the price for having her family but apparently SUCH IS NOT THE CASE. It sounds like this is Naruto's friend though, if he's willing to make ramen on the spot at the sight of his face.]

I did! It's not as good as Ichiraku's but I'll do what I can. [Chouji is completely on board with Naruto here. He always has been. All ramen is good, but Ichiraku's ramen is the best.]

And she'll mentally note his favorite food. It's refreshing compared to all the important and confusing information she's been getting thus far. Remembering that Chouji likes barbecue and chips is simple. And who knows when Naruto will invite his friends over?]
It sure is! Salt ramen is the best though, ya know? Feels like forever since I've had a bowl of it. I'm really looking forward to trying yours!

I'm the most newly arrived one from Konoha besides you. Shikamaru's been here for years. [Not counting that one trip home, from which Chouji knows Shikamaru is still recovering.]
