Some people will tell you the Malnosso took us here, but Katara and some of the other people told me it's the world that takes us here, and that the Malnosso got taken here, too. They're the ones who put up the barrier, though. You can see it if you go out far enough, or if you go up high enough! People get taken from different times and places. I'm from the world with bending, and Lee thought I was using wind jutsus, but it's just airbending, really.
