Seventeen, huh? That's a good age, really. I remember what it was like turning seventeen, but that was so very, very long ago.

Still, it's a day people in my land find unforgettable. It's probably the most important birthday someone can have, really.

[He listens, interested.] How old are you, anyway? And what happens when you guys turn seventeen?

Oh, the last time I thought about it...hmm. I'm about five-hundred years old, more or less.

And when we turn seventeen, there's a ceremony we do called Gempukku. It's where a young person decides what sort path they want to follow. Usually it's choices like warrior or scholar or artist, farmer, that sort of thing.

Five hundred?! [WOAH REALLY?]

I don't even see any old lady wrinkles!

[That ceremony sounds cool, though.] What did you choose?

[She smiles kindly, patiently even.]

Remember, I'm a god, Naruto. Why would I get wrinkly? I don't age, unless I want to.

And my choice? I chose to be a priest. Which, where I come from means learning to do all of those things. I have to fight to defend myself and my temple, I have to read and write and make art to honor the other gods, and I have to plant food to make things grow.

It's paid off. The work I did is how I became what I am, anyway. And it's rewarding, in it's own way.

I guess it'd be a bit like learning to be a ninja must've been for you.
