[ Kakashi had really been avoiding this, but he knows he really shouldn't avoid it any longer. Especially with Minato's birthday coming up. Most likely, Minato would want to have a gathering, and will be inviting everyone. Kakashi can't exactly say no to his teacher, and it's been long enough that he's left the issue unresolved.

His call to Sakura hadn't gone too terribly, so maybe the other two won't be so bad.

It takes him a while after he wraps up his call to Sakura to finally works up the nerve to send Naruto a voice message.

There's a long pause of silence in the beginning before Kakashi clears his throat awkwardly. ]

Naruto... I think we should talk.

[Naruto expected this at some point.

What happened hadn't been their fault, it had been happening all around the village. Even so this particular incident had been especially mortifying so he had done a good job of avoiding Kakashi until now, even though he knew they should talk about it.]

[There's a bit of a nervous chuckle as he answers.]

H-hey, Kakashi-sensei!

[ The nervousness in Naruto's voice isn't entirely unexpected.

Kakashi wouldn't think he'd feel comfortable about all this, even after two weeks of careful avoidance. After all, Kakashi had done something pretty unspeakable, and even if it had been caused by a stupid plant that made them all act uncharacteristically, the fact of the matter remains that he did, in fact, pin Naruto against a tree and have his way with him for a little while.

There's a small pause as Kakashi considers how to frame what he wants to say, but he ends up just taking a breath and sighing. ]

Look, Naruto... I just wanted to apologize.

[ Kakashi's not going to even bother beating around the bush or with any sort of small talk. He called Naruto to say that he was sorry, and it's been over two weeks that this apology has been coming. ]

I know that what happened wasn't something either of us could control, but I did something I should never have done... and for that, I'm sorry.

[It's still hard for him to think about what happened, let alone talk about it, but after hearing Kakashi apologize it makes him realise that this cannot be the only one it is hard on.

The journal is open but he's silent for a moment before speaking up, and this time he doesn't sound as nervous as he had before (though it hasn't gone away completely and he's far less boisterous than his usual self.)]

Well.. it wasn't our fault, yeah?

It's whoever made those plants appear everywhere, we'd never do something like uh. That. Otherwise.

No. I never would break your trust like that. Not willingly, or intentionally.

[ But the fact of the matter is that he did in fact do it. That it happened. And he doesn't know if Naruto will ever trust him again, or feel comfortable being alone with him. The damage had been done, and Kakashi can only try his best to pick up the pieces.

He lets out a quiet breath, and when he speaks again, his voice is more quiet. Tired.

He might as well offer Naruto what he offered Sakura, what he plans on offering Sasuke, too. ]

If you'd rather not see me or talk to me for little while, I understand.

[Part of him- that immature, gut-reaction is saying yes, he could quite happily continue to avoid Kakashi for the rest of forever so they don't have to acknowledge the embarrassing thing that happened.

But after a second or two it is replaced by his proper thoughts. Having Kakashi talk to him in such a serious way, and offer to not see him, it makes Naruto realise that he doesn't want that.]

It's fine, Kakashi-sensei. What happened was sorta... embarrassing.. yeah? But it doesn't mean I don't wanna talk to you.

[He feels much more resolved now. After all, the Child of Prophecy can't let himself be defeated by something like a kiss, right?]

[Unless:]

Or are you saying you don't want to talk to me?!

No, no, of course not...

[ That's the last thing Kakashi would want. After all, Naruto is his student, and very important to Kakashi. Offering to give him space, to not talk to him for some time, was more for Naruto's comfort than for his own.

Given, he did need some time to sort things out on his own, but two weeks is more than enough time to get over it.

(Not that he really is, but for the sake of his students, he'll try.) ]

Good...

[It's not like they need to go hang out right now or anything but it's good to know that when it counts things won't be difficult between them.

Or at least they shouldn't, with any luck.]

You're not going to tell anyone are you?

[ There's a slightly awkward laugh. You see, it's a little too late for that, Naruto... ]

Ah, yes, it's okay, Naruto, but... I had to tell your father.

[ A slight pause. ]

I'm sorry, he's the Hokage, he needed to know.

[ And he's your dad, you know. ]

You WHAT??!

[The only thing worse than kissing Kakashi- his Dad knowing about it.]

Why's the Hokage need to know stuff like that? He's my DAD!

It's because he's your dad that he needed to know.

[ Kakashi's voice is light, and though he knows Naruto's probably a little embarrassed about this, it's important that Naruto understands. This part, Kakashi's not sorry about at all. ]

And even if he weren't your father, as Hokage, it would've been important for him to know what occurred... Especially as it involves a jounin sensei and a genin.

He didn't need to know! Argh!

[For some reason it just bugs the hell out of him knowing that his Dad knows. Though Kakashi never said when he told him- has he known all this time??]

I don't see why he has to know!

[And being reminded that he is still a genin is just the icing on the cake of embarrassment!]

When you become Hokage, Naruto, you'll understand.

[ This was, after, a rather severe indiscretion that could have had rather serious consequences, had Minato not been so forgiving and understanding. ]

I made a pretty bad mistake, and even if it wasn't my own will, the Hokage needed to be notified that it occurred. It was my responsibility to report it, even if the Hokage is your dad.

[He sort of gets what Kakashi is trying to say, but this is still all kinds of embarrassing.

Luckily enough nobody can see the faces he is pulling right now.]

I guess... but still.

He hasn't mentioned it at all to you all this time, has he?

[ Yup, Naruto, he's known this entire time. ]

[All this time??]

How long has he known?!

Hmm? Ah, I told him the day it happened ...

[ Okay maybe a little too lightly there. ]

[Yep, that sure was some exasperated screech coming from Konoha's Noisy Ninja. His Dad has known all this time.]

Oh man.. I wonder if my Mom knows too..

Ah... I'm not sure....

[ He's really not, actually. He did tell Minato these things in confidence, and it's entirely possible Minato didn't tell Kushina to protect the trust Kakashi placed in him. ]

You could ask him.

I don't wanna ask him!

[Nevermind, he'd rather not know. His Dad hadn't mentioned any of it until now, maybe it was better that way?]

I think that's entirely up to you, Naruto.

[ This is, after all, very personal. And embarrassing, for Naruto. ]
